we're farmers

So apparently we are farmers now. We've lived in the sticks for about 6 years and have finally made the leap. We now have 16 baby chicks. Paul's reasoning is that we eat a ton of eggs...well, egg whites...and he considers this food storage. I don't mind the idea of fresh organic eggs every morning either, but this is his thing. I don't want much part of it. We've already had 2 chicks die and that was sad enough. The girls have been having fun with them. They always say, "I'm going to go check on the chicks." Now if I can just get them used to the idea of eating green eggs!

I seriously think that is a good idea. A lot of poop though. Congrats on the pregnancy, I hope everything goes well.

They are cute, good job on taking some initiative to produce your own food. We started a garden this year for the first time.
PS. I am due Oct 20th, what about you?

Not a bad idea. Have you seen how much the egg-powder is? Cute little chickies.

How stinking cute! And I just read your blog about being prego! Yeah!!! Jessica told me you were trying and I'm so glad you are! Are you hoping for a boy? I think I just make girls! I guess I should say Nic only makes girls!

The chicks look so fun and cute! We have actually thought of that, too. Are you building coops or just letting them run around?

They are so cute, until they just get big and you have chicken poop everywhere.

Too cute Verne Baby, the girls will have so much fun with them. I grew up raising chickens, and it wasn't so bad when we had to butcher them, or eat their green eggs, actually, I have a lot of great memories doing that.

So fun!! Kasey's parent have a bunch of adult chickens too...they just hatched 12 baby chicks and it is so much fun for the grandkids. They LOVE to gather the eggs and play with the chicks. One piece of advice - start collecting egg cartons now...with 16 chicks you have more eggs than you now what to do with! :-)

Hi Julia, I found your blog through my cousin Tera's blog. Don't know if you remember me, Amber (Kana), last time I saw you we were working at Matrixx. Looks like you have a wonderful family, and BEAUTIFUL girls.

So I was eating eggs the other day and was wondering on how your farm is going. So how is your farm coming along?
