Vehicle Evolution

Though I do not have an actual picture of my very first car, this is a very close representation of it. Mine was navy blue with a chrome panel up the side. Officially it was my parents car, purchased for us kids. I had to share it with my brother for the first year, but then that baby was all mine. I know...you're jealous.

My first couple of years in college was spent depending on the UTA and all my wonderful roommates. Thanks ladies for all the rides I bummed off you.

Once again, this isn't my actual car. I couldn't find a picture of it. It looked exactly like this without the sweet wheels. This was my first major purchase without the help of my parents. I was totally excited to finally have my own vehicle after using and abusing my roommates for so long. PS. I'd like to think my husbands obsession with VW's came from me driving this car.

A sad picture...I know. This was taken the day we got married. This was Paul's car before it became mine. I believe it's one of the reasons I dated him...I thought he had a nice car.

The moment we had our first child, we did what most people do and traded up for a bigger car. I look back on this moment and think, why in the world did I think I needed a bigger car when I only had one kid! It was nice and held all our family on visits, but mostly it was a gas guzzler and got only 13 miles per gallon.

I love, love, loved this car. It was so cute and sporty and felt like you were driving a little go cart. Plus I got 33 mpg. Loved that. We sold it sadly just a few months ago to make room for the new babes.

I know...you're jealous. I have made the leap to be a minivan mom. We call it an MV though...makes it sound a little better. We are trying to be a bit more frugal these days. Paul's career change comes with less $$ for awhile. So this little beauty cost us a whole $2200. I'm hoping it will last us until the end of Paul's probationary period and then we'll be able to get something a bit more reliable. But who knows, maybe by then I'll be used to not having any car payment and used to the whole idea of me driving a MV.

Looooove it! Don't care what the car is like, the family inside is gold!

Oh Julia! I know your pain! I have a honda mini van and I HATE it! It was my mid-life crisis car...and no matter the cool music or how cute you look that day, you are never cool in the van! It is roomy though!

Hi Julia! Good for you, the family inside IS gold. What a sassy mom you are regardless of the miniature van.

ps. thanks for the nice comment last week.

Yeah right! I was wondering when this day would come!!! Love, love the mv.

You kill me Julz. I LOVE the MV. This picture is so PERFECT too. Look at each one of the kids faces. So different and cute! Good job keeping them inline

I love the tempo, that is my fav! You are so smart just to buy a car and pay it off. I have heard ranting reviews from fellow mom's that mini vans are awesome and even though SUV's are "cooler" they are not as practical. Just put on some hot rims and then you could always add those vinyl stickers.

Hi - for a picture of the real Jetta.... all you had to do was ask. I miss that car. :)
That is a pretty nice looking MV for $2200. And isn't it nice being able to fit your whole family in one vehicle? I can remember when we were growing up we'd always have to take 2 vehicles.

That is a fine automobile Julia! I am so happy that all of my grandchildren can now ride safely together with their parents. Good for you.

You are so great Jules! It is funny how the car thing evolves, and you basically get to the end and really don't care what you are driving as long as it gets you there safely, holds all the children, and doesn't cost more money than you have! We are in the process of selling the "nice" car with a payment and will be a 1 car family with no payment. 1997 Isuzu Rodeo and what a lovely thing it is!! I still dream of the big wheels...someday!!!

Whatever you guys, minivans are awesome!!

I remember that summer when you and Jane were saving to buy your cars and using public transit. Do you remember when we drove your VW down to Arizona for Jane's wedding? And one of the belts broke and we pulled over and some mechanic fixed it for free since it was a Sunday! That was awesome. Remember when you tried teaching me how to drive a stick shift? I still don't know. You're so cute. Sorry you're losing all your hair. That happens to me when I have a baby, too and it's lame!
